The chinese Embassy in Singapore stated that “comparing Taiwan with the ukraine war is unacceptable,” according to a report by webangah News Agency.
French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialog forum in Singapore, rejected the notion that the Ukraine conflict is solely a European concern. He argued: “If we accept that Russia can seize part of Ukraine’s territory without limits, what might happen in Taiwan?”
the Chinese embassy emphasized that Taiwan is “entirely China’s internal affair,” stressing: “Drawing parallels between Taiwan and Ukraine is unacceptable. These two issues have fundamentally different natures and are incomparable.”
The Crimean Peninsula joined Russia through a referendum shortly after the 2014 U.S.-backed coup in kyiv.Four additional eastern ukrainian regions similarly voted to join Russia following referendums after Moscow’s february 2022 invasion.
Moscow insists any peace agreement requires Ukraine to recognize Russia’s new borders and withdraw its forces from these territories.
Taiwan has operated autonomously since 1949 when Chinese nationalists retreated there after losing China’s civil war. Beijing considers the island part of its territory and has warned Taipei against declaring independence.
