The US military has deployed 700 Marines to Los Angeles to protect federal personnel and facilities amid growing unrest,according to a report by webangah News Agency.The Pentagon confirmed the move, citing increased threats against law enforcement and government buildings.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated the federal government has an obligation to protect its law enforcement personnel, even if California Governor Gavin Newsom “fails to act.” In response, Newsom condemned the deployment as “the product of a delusional dictator president’s creativity.”
The governor criticized the federal approach, revealing he’d held meetings with local officials to develop strategies for restoring calm.”State and local leaders are working together to clean up Trump’s mess,” Newsom told reporters,emphasizing efforts to rebuild community safety and repair damages.
In an interview with The New York Times, Newsom characterized the Marine deployment as President Trump’s attempt “to stoke more fear, anger and division” in society. Meanwhile, US Northern Command emphasized the troops received de-escalation training designed to reduce tensions.
The command stated their primary mission involves supporting National Guard units already stationed in Los Angeles. Separately, Florida’s attorney general vowed his state wouldn’t tolerate “anti-immigration police chaos” like LA’s protests while announcing expanded resources for enforcing federal immigration policies.
The LAPD confirmed it hasn’t received official notification about Marine deployments but acknowledged their potential arrival would pose meaningful logistical challenges.
