Iraq’s National Security Agency confirmed Monday that the country’s criminal court has issued death sentences for those responsible for the execution of Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr and his sister Bint al-Huda, according to a report by webangah News Agency citing Al-Sumaria.
The agency’s media center stated that the competent criminal court convicted two individuals-Saadoun Sabri and Haitham Abdulaziz-after proving their involvement in the 1980 killings. The victims included innocent civilians as well as members of the Islamic Dawa Party during Iraq’s former regime.
The iraqi agency emphasized that both convicts had collaborated with the former regime,holding positions within its oppressive security apparatus. They confessed to participating in the murders at Jisr Diyala district.
The verdict represents a culmination of efforts by Iraq’s National Security Agency to deliver justice, having apprehended the suspects and conducted judicial investigations under official oversight.
