According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency,Pirhossein Kolivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, addressed a letter to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus requesting easier access for sending medicines and humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
The letter reads:
Dear Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,
Director-General of the World Health organization (WHO)
Greetings and respect,
As the world faces one of the most catastrophic humanitarian crises in Gaza’s history, international organizations bear a moral and ethical responsibility to act instantly. Urgent intervention is needed to save helpless civilians-especially children, pregnant women, and patients.
Official reports from internationally recognized bodies such as the World Food Program (WFP), UNICEF, and UNRWA indicate that Gaza’s humanitarian situation is on the brink of total collapse. The ongoing siege, destruction of medical infrastructure, acute shortages of medicine, food and fuel shortages alongside blocked relief routes have placed millions at severe risk.
In this critical context, the Iranian Red Crescent Society affirms its full readiness to participate in relief efforts and calls upon you and WHO to urgently take effective measures including:
- Immediate support for reopening humanitarian crossings allowing entry for medicines, medical equipment, and healthcare teams.
- Coordination with relevant international bodies to ensure secure delivery routes for aid supplies by establishing safe passageways.
- Strengthening medical support logistics for operational health centers and hospitals within Gaza.
Your organization’s active impartial role in these sensitive circumstances can save thousands of defenseless lives while restoring hope among suffering families.
Sincerely,
Pirhoosin Kolivand
Head of Islamic Republic of Iran Red Crescent Society
