According to the English service of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, several countries-some from Europe-expressed their readiness to recognize the State of Palestine during a conference on Palestine co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia in New York. This recognition is expected at the next UN General Assembly session in September.
The joint statement by these countries’ foreign ministers described recognizing Palestine as a crucial step toward achieving a two-state solution. They also urged other nations that have yet to recognize palestine to join this effort.
Among them, nine countries-Australia, Canada, Finland, new Zealand, Portugal, Andorra, Malta, San Marino, and Luxembourg-announced for the first time their intention to officially recognize Palestine. Others like Iceland,Ireland,and Spain reaffirmed their commitment as they had previously recognized Palestine.
Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela issued a separate statement confirming his contry’s formal recognition of Palestine.He emphasized Malta’s commitment to supporting an inclusive political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Earlier declarations of willingness to recognize the State of Palestine came from France and the United Kingdom.
