Abdel Bari Atwan, editor-in-chief of the electronic and pan-regional newspaper Rai al-Youm and a prominent Palestinian analyst, addressed the recent “Two-State Solution” conference held at the United Nations General assembly under the leadership of France and Saudi Arabia.According to webangah News Agency’s English section citing Mehr News Agency, atwan wrote that current increasing discussions about recognizing the State of Palestine overshadow the genocide and starvation war against Gaza. They legitimize Israeli demands to disarm Palestinian resistance groups. Supporters calling for Palestinian statehood view resistance as an obstacle rather than condemning Israel-the occupying regime that has turned Gaza into an open-air graveyard, massacring over 60,000 innocent civilians, wounding more than 150,000 peopel, and entirely destroying Gaza’s infrastructure.

Atwan highlighted four points revealing true intentions behind this recognition push, emphasizing it is an illusory plan reviving past deceptions:
- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that his country would officially recognize Palestine by next September-unless Tel Aviv takes specific steps such as improving conditions in Gaza. This indicates recognition is essentially part of a political bargain.
- Delaying recognition until next September grants Israel over a month to carry out its mission to annihilate two million residents in Gaza through starvation,bombing campaigns,or forced displacement into Sinai desert or distant countries like Libya,Indonesia or Ethiopia.
- The states participating in the so-called Two-State Solution conference conditioned implementing this plan on disarming Hamas and Islamic Jihad resistance movements by handing their weapons over to the Palestinian Authority. Notably, six Arab countries-including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar-agreed with this step.
- Former U.S. President Donald Trump-who considers himself leader of the free world-personally opposed establishing a Palestinian state even on paper and regarded it as rewarding Hamas; thus U.S. veto power remains ready to crush any resolution recognizing Palestine with backing from Arab allies that are first in line to comply with Washington’s stance.
Western-Arab Backers Help Israelis in Their Genocidal war Against Gaza
Atwan further stressed that none of these countries dared call Israel criminal or demand sanctions during discussions about recognizing Palestine at this conference. Even worse are some like Britain who continue supplying advanced ammunition and missiles used by Israel in its genocidal war on innocent Gazans.

He questioned whether these actors could genuinely establish a Palestinian state-and if so where? In devastated Gaza or West Bank territory formally annexed by Israel’s Knesset? He expressed astonishment at how some talk excitedly about Western-Arab intentions as if this were an Archimedes’ lever poised to change everything globally – especially Middle East affairs.

Atwan outlined key historical milestones:
- The British Balfour Declaration granting jews rights to establish residence in palestine while stressing respect for Palestinians’ rights;
- The UN Partition Resolution 181 passed in 1947 calling for creating a Palestinian state alongside Israel;
- UN Security Council Resolution 242 issued after the Six-Day War (1967) affirming establishment of Palestine;
- The oslo Accords signed at Washington’s White House garden in September 1993 predicted creating a palestinian state with all parties involved referring explicitly to it;
- The Quartet roadmap established by UN-Russia-U.S.-EU coalition (2002) designed to end armed uprising against occupation-but now nowhere seen;
- Citing how at least 142 nations – including France – already recognized an autonomous State of Palestine within occupied West Bank & Gaza during previous UN sessions; questioning what current discussions actually add;
- A reminder when Obama management supported appointing Salam Fayyad prime minister (2007) intending him as architect laying foundations for building palatable institutional structures-but what became evident afterward?
The People Of Palestine Will Not Be Fooled twice By The Same Trap
