According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Ehud Olmert, Israel’s former prime minister and a vocal critic of Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet in recent months, told Germany’s Spiegel newspaper that Israel’s military objectives in Gaza have long been achieved and continuing the war is no longer justified.
Referring to the assassination of Yahya al-Sinwar, commander and leader of Hamas in Gaza, Olmert saeid this operation could have ended the conflict. However,he accused Netanyahu of prolonging hostilities to protect his personal and political interests.
Olmert urged that Netanyahu should face legal proceedings not at The Hague but within Israel itself.he called for charges related to crimes committed against Palestinians-and even Israelis-to be pursued against him.
The former prime minister also described the regime’s military actions in Gaza as illegal and rife with acts constituting potential war crimes.
He acknowledged that Israeli security forces participate in and support settler attacks on Palestinian areas in the West Bank.
Criticizing Israeli officials’ conduct following Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, Olmert stressed that the regime has abandoned reason and restraint. He warned that if this trend continues, Israel risks facing international sanctions and global isolation.
Olmert’s blunt remarks come amid growing field setbacks in Gaza, increasing diplomatic isolation, and a domestic economic crisis-all deepening divisions within Israeli political factions and further undermining Netanyahu’s government’s position.
