According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, the Ukrainian Parliament voted on Thursday to restore the independence of two key anti-corruption bodies. This marks a notable step toward resolving Kyiv’s largest political crisis as ongoing conflicts began.
The parliament announced that lawmakers passed the bill with 331 votes for and zero against. The legislation had been introduced last week by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The move follows pressure from thousands of protesters and senior European officials demanding stronger action against corruption amid Western financial and military aid to Ukraine. In response, President Zelenskyy proposed this bill to parliament.
Earlier reports by The New York Times indicated that the European Union suspended $1.7 billion in aid allocated to Kyiv due to Ukraine’s failure to implement key anti-corruption reforms.
This funding suspension is part of a broader €50 billion support package intended by the EU to promote macroeconomic stability, recovery, and reform efforts in Ukraine.
