According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the reimplementation of tariffs on more than 60 countries and regions, with rates varying between 10 and 41 percent.
In a separate order, Trump raised tariffs on certain imported goods from Canada from 25 to 35 percent. The White House accused Ottawa of failing to cooperate in curbing the flood of fentanyl and other drug trafficking.
Washington released a statement titled “Revising Reciprocal Tariff Rates,” listing approximately 69 trade partners whose tariff rates have been adjusted.
Exports from some major U.S. trade partners, such as Australia and the United Kingdom, now face a base tariff rate of 10 percent.
The executive order specifies that these tariffs will come into effect starting August 7. countries facing the highest tariff rates include Iraq (35%), Serbia (35%), Switzerland (39%), Laos (40%), Myanmar (40%), and Syria (41%).
In addition to those on the White House list, the Falkland Islands and Taiwan will be subject to tariffs of 10 percent and 20 percent respectively.
The White House stated that goods imported from countries not listed will be subject to a standard customs tax rate of 10 percent.
