According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Hungarian Prime Minister viktor Orbán criticized Europe’s approach toward Russia, stressing that shaping policies based on a “threat from Russia” only leads to mistakes.
Orbán stated, “The assumption that the Russians are coming to occupy our land is unrealistic, and we should not base our policymaking on this premise because unrealistic assumptions only result in errors.”
He added, “Russia is currently not in a position to threaten Europe. Europe has more soldiers and stronger armies and also enjoys support from its key NATO ally-the United States.”
The Hungarian politician noted, ”If we look at military budgets, we see that the total defence budget of the European Union is several times greater than Russia’s.”
He emphasized, ”That is why Europeans-including Poland, Hungary, and Romania-have nothing to fear. I do not believe these countries face any military threat.”
Budapest has consistently criticized EU sanctions against Russia and called for resolving the Ukraine war through diplomatic means.
