according to the English section of webangah News Agency,citing Anadolu News Agency via Mehr News Agency,more than 12 democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter requesting that the Trump governance officially recognize the State of Palestine.
In their letter addressed to President Donald Trump and Secretary of state Marco Rubio, these lawmakers wrote: “At this painful moment, recognizing Palestinians’ right to self-determination has become more urgent and prominent worldwide.”
The legislators referenced recent remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron, who pledged at the United nations General Assembly in September to recognize Palestine as a state.
The letter added: “We encourage governments that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine-including the United States-to follow suit.”
Representative Ro Khanna, who is leading this initiative, told axios that outreach began last week and responses have been overwhelmingly positive.
Khanna further stated that recognizing Palestine would align with a resolution approved this week by 22 arab League countries calling for establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Addressing the Trump administration directly, Khanna wrote: ”More than 147 countries have recognized Palestine. We cannot remain disconnected from the free world.”
