Democratic Congress Members Urge Trump to Recognize Palestine

A group of‌ Democrats in the ⁢U.S. ​Congress have sent a letter to their president ⁤and secretary of state urging “trump” to recognize Palestine.

according to the English⁣ section of webangah News ⁢Agency,citing Anadolu News Agency via Mehr News Agency,more than 12 democratic members ⁢of the​ U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter requesting that the Trump governance officially recognize the State of Palestine.

In their letter⁤ addressed to ⁤President Donald Trump and Secretary of state Marco​ Rubio,‌ these lawmakers wrote: “At this painful moment,‍ recognizing Palestinians’ right to self-determination​ has become more urgent and prominent worldwide.”

The legislators referenced recent remarks by French President⁣ Emmanuel Macron, who ⁢pledged at the⁢ United nations ⁢General ⁢Assembly in September to recognize Palestine as a ‌state.

The ⁣letter⁤ added: “We encourage governments that have yet to ⁢recognize the State⁤ of Palestine-including⁣ the United States-to follow suit.”

Representative Ro Khanna, who⁤ is leading this ‌initiative, told axios ⁢that outreach began ⁤last week and responses have been overwhelmingly positive.

Khanna ​further stated that recognizing Palestine would align with a resolution approved this ​week by 22 arab League countries​ calling for establishment of‍ an independent Palestinian​ state.

Addressing ⁣the Trump administration directly, Khanna ⁢wrote: ⁤”More than 147 countries ​have recognized Palestine. We cannot remain disconnected from the free world.”
