According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy to West Asia, is likely to visit Russia on August 6.
Earlier, President Donald Trump stated that Witkoff might travel to Russia on Wednesday or Thursday this week.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions between moscow and Washington following Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Moscow if no agreement with Ukraine is reached within ten days. Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, responded sharply to the U.S. president’s threats.
Today, Trump announced that two U.S. nuclear submarines have been deployed “where they need to be.” He had previously said these submarines would be positioned near Russian waters in response to Medvedev’s remarks.
