A security source has announced the launch of a clearance operation near the shared border between Iraq and Syria.
According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Maloumeh, a security source reported that a clearance operation has begun in difficult-to-access areas near the border with Syria from Nineveh province.
The source added that Iraqi security forces have launched the operation through three axes across nine geographically challenging locations within approximately 20 kilometers inside Iraqi territory.
The official emphasized that this operation aims to secure these areas and surrounding villages against the return of underground militant groups.
It is indeed worth mentioning that securing border areas close to Syria has taken on new dimensions in Iraq over recent months.
