The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, reported that The New York Times, quoting informed sources, revealed President Donald Trump plans to hold a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin early next week.
According to the report, Trump intends to follow this meeting with a trilateral summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin.
The American media added that Trump disclosed this plan during a Wednesday phone call with several European leaders.
New York Times sources emphasized that these meetings will include only Trump, Putin, and Zelensky; no European leaders will participate.
Simultaneously occurring, the White House stated that Russia has expressed its willingness to meet with Trump, who welcomes meetings with both the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.
A White House official also indicated that the meeting between Trump and Putin might take place next week. Al jazeera did not specify the name or position of this U.S. official.
Rubio: Progress by Both leaders Will determine Meeting’s Outcome
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed reports of a possible meeting between Trump and Putin, noting it is indeed likely the two leaders will speak in the coming days.
However, Rubio said he dose not know if an in-person meeting will happen next week; such an event depends on progress made by both sides toward arranging it.
