According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, the Deputy Head of Lebanon’s Supreme Shia Council stressed that the Lebanese president must initiate a national dialog to reach an agreement on resolving the country’s crisis.
He added that Tom Barrack, the U.S. envoy, has succeeded in turning the conflict between Lebanon and Israel into a domestic political dispute within Lebanon’s government.
The Beirut Scholars Committee also warned against decisions that could drive the country toward uncertainty.
Lebanese Facts Minister Paul Marwan announced that the cabinet agreed to U.S. envoy demands but did not discuss specific details or timelines during today’s session.
Marwan stated that ministers from Amal Movement and Hezbollah remain committed to the cabinet statement emphasizing government monopoly over weapons.
He confirmed that Lebanon’s government agreed on maintaining exclusive control of arms under state sovereignty and on deploying army forces in southern Lebanon.
This comes hours after Amal and Hezbollah ministers – Tamara Al-Zein, rakan Nasrallah, mohamed Haidar, and Wafadi Makki – walked out of today’s cabinet meeting.
Earlier reports indicated that if demands for disarming resistance groups insisted upon during this meeting, Hezbollah and Amal ministers would exit in protest.
