According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Nikol Pashinyan, prime minister of the Republic of Armenia, referred to his meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev in Washington and stated that yerevan and Baku have finally reached peace.
Pashinyan emphasized,”What happened today is historic. For months I have said there will be no war between Armenia and Azerbaijan; there will be peace. Today we can say that peace has been established based on sovereignty and the full territorial integrity of our countries.”
He added that unblocking regional transportation corridors will bring billions of dollars in investment into Armenia’s economy. He also urged Armenian citizens to unite around peace.
The Prime Minister further noted that the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan will continue.
As reported by TASS, yesterday in Washington, Pashinyan and Aliyev signed a memorandum of understanding on unblocking transport routes in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump. The corridor involves a road crossing through Armenia’s Syunik region connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its exclave Nakhchivan.This transit route has been named the “Trump Corridor.”
Meanwhile, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the signed peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku will be published on august 11.
Dariush safarnezhad, senior Caucasus expert at an international conference titled “zangezur Corridor: Geopolitical Threats against Iran and Perspectives from Various Actors,” held with participation from Mehr media group managers, stressed that the “Zangezur Corridor” is a 34-year-old U.S. project which both Iran and russia have opposed since its inception; this opposition explains why it has not yet been implemented. read full coverage of this event here.
