In today’s turbulent world, geopolitical and economic issues play a crucial role in shaping relations between countries. One significant topic under discussion is the Zangezur corridor project, which is presented as a strategic plan with extensive political and security implications.
Veteran politician and leader of Turkey’s Patriotic Party, Doğu Perinçek, spoke with Mehr News Agency to analyze various aspects of this corridor. He identified it as an Israeli-American initiative.
Perinçek also highlighted the threats this corridor poses to the security of both Turkey and Iran. He stressed the need for regional countries to unite against foreign interference. The detailed interview with Doğu Perinçek follows:
Iran has repeatedly stated it will not allow any changes to borders or regional geopolitics. However, Turkey and Azerbaijan continue to push for activating the Zangezur corridor.Recently, there have been discussions about American involvement in managing this corridor-meaning a U.S. presence near Iran’s borders. Doesn’t such presence threaten regional security? Does Turkey not feel endangered?
The Zangezur corridor is clearly an Israeli-American project; this should be obvious to everyone-and we at the Patriotic Party fully recognize it.
What is this corridor’s purpose? It aims to block northern Caucasus connectivity-that is iran’s links with Armenia, Georgia, and Russia. For that reason alone, it is an American-Israeli venture posing a direct threat to Turkey’s security as well.
So what threatens Turkey here? Unquestionably Israel and America do. Therefore, any action taken by thes two powers poses risks for Turkey. As Patriotic Party members we are deeply concerned by this situation: we see America encircling Turkey.
This encirclement extends from cooperation between america-Israel on one side-with greece and Greek Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean on another front-to military exercises like naval drills codenamed Nabel Dina near heavily fortified Aegean coasts hosting U.S bases. From there through Northern Syria into Iraq-the U.S effectively surrounds Turkey geographically while Israel asserts influence in the Caucasus region too.
This makes Zangezur a serious threat against Turkish interests-thus we oppose implementing this project vigorously.
Instead of activating Zangezur specifically,
choice corridors through Armenia or Iran remain feasible options.
The Zangezur route directly threatens both Iranian security
and economic interests while yet again holding importance
for Turkish ambitions despite these risks.
Given that threats faced by Iran ultimately affect Turkish security too,
why does Ankara neglect such concerns?
The so-called ‘Zangezur corridor’ represents East-to-West integration but used improperly can sever connections
between South-North regions.
In effect, this route could become a barrier restricting relations iran maintains with other states bordering its northern frontiers.
Hence,
it represents not only an economic threat but also compromises regional stability involving both Tehran & Ankara alike.
If anyone shows sensitivity toward threats posed by Washington
and Tel Aviv then they must act accordingly;
failures here alienate natural allies resisting imperialism globally
In your view,
what would be THE best solution regarding
the Zangezur Corridor issue?
The optimal resolution lies in uniting all countries within
the region against American & Israeli agendas:
Iran,Türkiye,Azerbaijan,
Armenia,
Georgia,Russia – even Kazakhstan - figure prominently together across Southern & Northern Caucasus zones seeking common means for ensuring economic
security without divisive external pressures interfering
“Once Israeli-American interventions end,
solution will naturally emerge,” he added.
“finally , if you have further points,… “
I’d emphasize again that ultimate resolutions around
ZANGEZUR compel involvement from LOCAL STATES:
Unity spanning east-west routes should foster robust links without splitting north-south arteries; We’ll collectively maintain connections between southern zones (like IRAN) withe international communities residing farther north.””
