According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, a informed source told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed News Website that a delegation of Hamas leaders, headed by prominent leader Khalil al-Hayya, will travel to Egypt today, Monday. This visit is part of efforts to resume halted negotiations between the movement and the Egyptian side.
The source added that reopening negotiation channels between Cairo and Hamas came thru Turkish mediation following last week’s visit by a Hamas delegation to Ankara. During that trip, they met with Turkish officials to discuss developments in Gaza and the issue of a ceasefire.
The source further noted that Ankara’s efforts peaked with the recent visit on Saturday by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Cairo. During this visit, Fidan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and formally requested Turkey’s mediation in restoring dialog between Egypt and Hamas regarding pending matters.
The source pointed out that Cairo expressed readiness to receive the Hamas delegation within the framework of renewed regional efforts aimed at bridging differences. This comes amid complex political and field conditions on the Palestinian scene as well as regional and international pressures calling for an end to tensions and facilitation of humanitarian aid access into Gaza.
El-Sisi and Fidan reaffirmed their shared position concerning developments in Gaza Strip. They firmly opposed any renewed military occupation or imposition of new realities undermining Palestinian rights. Both warned about consequences resulting from Israel’s ongoing military operations on Gaza’s already dire humanitarian situation.
The two sides also emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire that would allow unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into all parts of Gaza while ensuring reciprocal release of prisoners.
El-Sisi and Fidan rejected any attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands, underlining the importance of coordinated regional and international action to stabilize a ceasefire and create conditions conducive for restarting political settlement talks based on a two-state solution.
