The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay issued a statement condemning the Israeli cabinet’s security decision to occupy Gaza City, calling it a serious breach of international law.The move hinders progress toward a peaceful resolution and worsens the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry stated:
we reaffirm our commitment to international peace and security. uruguay supports the “New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Issue and Implementation of the Two-State Solution,” presented by 19 countries at the high-level international conference on July 28-29. This declaration marks an significant step toward achieving lasting and just peace in the Middle East by providing a comprehensive, practical roadmap for all parties involved. It strategically addresses multiple aspects of the conflict, including political, security, humanitarian, economic, and legal dimensions.
We emphasize signatory countries’ willingness to recognize the State of Palestine.
This initiative aims to strengthen constructive dialog that fosters regional integration. These steps are essential elements in efforts to reach a two-state solution.
Uruguay acknowledges the importance of moving toward establishing a robust post-conflict framework for Gaza. This framework should include concrete plans for reconstructing the Gaza Strip.
