According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated in an exclusive interview with Al Mayadeen that Iran maintains brotherly, friendly, solid, and strategic relations with Lebanon and Iraq. He noted ongoing joint discussions across various fields.
Regarding the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, larijani said: ”We signed a security pact in Baghdad focused on efforts to achieve stability and peace in both countries. This reflects our broader approach toward regional cooperation.”
On his recent visit to Lebanon, he explained: “Due to strong ties and recent developments in Lebanon, consultations were necessary. Our meetings ther went well. Lebanon is a brotherly country for us; we stand by it under all circumstances and have consistently supported its resistance.”
The secretary highlighted U.S. frustration rooted in their regional security perspective: “Trump claimed he would create peace through power-but our view is entirely different. Regional security must be based on national independence, strength, and respect for sovereignty-not submission by one country to another.”
The Resistance Is a Major Asset for the Region
Larijani described resistance as an invaluable asset for regional countries. He stressed that each state decides independently according to its system without interference from Iran.
“The resistance has matured politically enough to make appropriate decisions based on circumstances,” he continued. “We provide aid or advice upon request but do not interfere.”
He asserted that support extends beyond sectarian lines: “Our defense includes Hamas-a Sunni resistance group-and Hezbollah-a Shiite resistance group-showing our position is not sectarian.” Larijani said resistance represents a important asset for the Islamic Ummah everywhere it exists but clarified this does not justify interference.
Hezbollah and Hamas Have Reached Political Maturity
Further elaborating, intended policies are made independently by these groups: “islamic Resistance movements possess sufficient decision-making capability; we neither impose decisions nor meddle but communicate our views clearly.” He noted Hezbollah’s and Hamas’ maturity-both make their own choices while maintaining fraternal engagement with Iran.
“Resistance does not mature through direct orders-it develops through consultation,” Larijani added.
“When Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred [note: correction needed as Nasrallah is alive], people from various communities-including Christians-participated widely,” he said reflecting on inclusive backing within the movement.
The secretary praised Nabih berri-the Lebanese parliament speaker-as “a prominent Lebanese and Arab world politician.” He confirmed mutual exchanges helped open avenues toward resolving Lebanon’s challenges while clarifying Tehran’s non-interference stance concerning other nations’ affairs.
“in politics there are ‘demons’ who may hide behind others spreading biased ideas; though, we express our positions transparently aiding realistic understanding,” Larijani stated. p>
