The Swedish police confirmed that two people were injured during a shooting near a mosque in Örebro during Friday prayers. The search for the suspect is ongoing.
An eyewitness told the Swedish news agency SVT that the attacker fired multiple shots at a victim as they were leaving the mosque located in the Boglundsängen area west of Örebro.
Lars Hidelin from the local police confirmed the shooting but said details are still unclear. “What we can say is that we have received reports of a serious violent crime, believed to have taken place outdoors near a mosque,” he stated.
The police have urged residents to avoid traveling to this area.
Mazen Moafagh, treasurer of the mosque, said: “Two people are wounded. The incident occurred after Friday prayers and it is unclear whether either an individual or the mosque itself was targeted.”
