According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Reuters via Mehr News Agency, Air Canada has suspended all flights following a widespread strike by its flight attendants. The airline stated this action will disrupt the travel plans of approximately 130,000 passengers daily.
The Flight Attendants’ Union, representing over 10,000 Air Canada crew members, confirmed a 72-hour strike starting earlier today.
Air Canada announced it suspended all flights and advised passengers to only come to airports if they hold tickets on other airlines.
The striking attendants demand wage increases and also compensation during aircraft downtime.
The airline estimates that about 500 daily flights will be affected due to the strike.
With direct flights to 180 cities worldwide, Air Canada said it has halted all operations. By last night, it had already canceled 623 flights impacting more than 100,000 travelers.
In contract negotiations, Air Canada offered flight attendants a total pay increase of 38% over four years, including a 25% raise in the first year.
