According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in an interview with Saudi network Al Hadath, addressed his country’s recent political and economic situation. He stressed that beirut must avoid any foreign interference, emphasizing that national sovereignty remains a red line for the government.
Without directly mentioning pressures or direct interventions from the United States or responding to Iranian officials’ statements affirming Tehran’s respect for Beirut’s decisions, Aoun asserted: “Our message is clear-opposition to any Iranian involvement in Lebanon’s internal affairs.”
Aoun explained Washington’s proposed plan involved Israeli withdrawal and Lebanon’s economic revival. “Our country was forced to choose between accepting this proposal or facing international isolation,” he said.
He added that Lebanon has not received any threats regarding implementation of the plan’s terms and reiterated that all negotiations are based on respecting national sovereignty. “We are ready to discuss all issues within this framework,” he stated.
The Lebanese president also announced plans to improve relations with Syria, saying border demarcation mediated by Saudi arabia is underway. Economic cooperation with Damascus will proceed based on Syria’s stance toward the U.S. proposal.
Expressing gratitude for Riyadh’s efforts, Aoun said: “Saudi Arabia played a key role in ending the presidential vacancy, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman strives for peace in the Middle East.”
Looking ahead at Lebanon’s place within the Arab world, Aoun declared: “With Arab support, Beirut will reclaim its natural position among Arab nations. My priority is ensuring security and stability; the Lebanese army remains a resilient institution committed to serving across the country.”
regarding his relationship with Lebanese Parliament Speaker nabih Berri, he described it as vrey good.
Aoun also emphasized regional developments have impacted Lebanon: “The Iran-Israel conflict and Palestinian issues have delayed disarmament efforts in refugee camps. However, we strive to keep Lebanon away from internal and external conflicts because such strife exhausts our nation.”
Concluding his remarks, Aoun reassured: “There is no reason for concern among any sects. I stand by my statements firmly believing Lebanon is on a path toward economic growth with ongoing reforms.”
Aoun’s assertion opposing Iranian interference comes amid recent comments by Ali larijani, Iran’s Secretary of Supreme National Security Council who stated during his visit to Beirut that Iran has never intervened in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
