Lebanese Pro-Resistance MP Supports Weapons Monopoly but Opposes Disarmament

A Lebanese parliamentarian from Hezbollah’s bloc, while agreeing that the government should have a monopoly on arms, emphasized that ‌this is different from disarming the⁢ resistance.

According to the english section of webangah News‍ Agency, ⁣citing Mehr News‌ Agency, Ibrahim al-Musawi, a Lebanese parliament member from Hezbollah’s faction, told⁢ Al Jazeera Qatar that everyone ⁣in Lebanon must ⁢maintain the highest level of awareness.

Referring to the issue⁣ of weapons, ⁢he said: “We agree on the monopoly of arms held by the state, but disarmament is a separate matter.”

Al-musawi responded to Israeli threats noting: “Wiht what logic would we take Lebanon’s power away when Netanyahu speaks openly about ‘Greater Israel’?”

He⁤ added: “If the government claims external pressure as an⁢ excuse, it must also consider internal pressures‌ it‌ faces regarding this issue.”

Al-Musawi ⁣stressed that defense matters should be addressed internally within Lebanon and not dictated by foreign orders.

He affirmed ‌that Hezbollah remains a ‍cooperative and constructive group ready for any⁣ dialog ⁤with the government.

Concluding ⁢his remarks, al-Musawi stated: “Israel has not fulfilled any of its commitments and none of the⁣ guarantor parties have taken action.”

The Deputy ⁤Prime Minister of Lebanon ⁢and Resistance Disarmament

Tarek Metri, Lebanon’s Deputy Prime Minister, also told Al Jazeera⁢ that ⁣Lebanon must avoid‍ language of destruction, threats, ⁣and intimidation.

Metri‍ stressed:⁤ “All ministers agree on the principle that weapons must be ‍exclusively held by the state;⁤ however, disagreement lies in ⁤how to realize this ‍matter.”

Highlighting domestic calm as essential ⁣for Lebanon’s stability he said: “We seek to preserve internal peace; no one desires conflict with the army.”

Criticizing political tensions further he stated: “Instead of political quarrels we should discuss how to deter Israel and avoid ⁣internal strife.”

The deputy prime‍ minister explained⁢ his government’s decision-making process about arms monopoly reporting: “The army will submit its report on plans for exclusive state armament within two weeks.”

He continued: “There is still time ⁤to consider how such plans can be implemented effectively under government management.”

Merti ended by acknowledging existing challenges saying: “We face both domestic and external⁣ difficulties but ⁣must pursue a path of wisdom.”

It is notable that recently Beirut adopted an American-backed decision targeting resistance weapons. This move provoked a strong reaction from Hezbollah’s ⁣Secretary-general.
