The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Anadolu and Mehr News Agency, reports that a boat capsized in sokoto State in northwestern Nigeria, resulting in at least 40 people missing.
Nigerian emergency services confirmed the incident, stating the boat carried no fewer than 50 passengers at the time of the accident.
According to the national Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), about 10 individuals were rescued, while 40 remain unaccounted for.
The vessel went down en route to Goronyo Market in Sokoto. Zubaida Umar, Director General of NEMA Nigeria, said rapid response teams have been deployed and that initial reports on the accident are being gathered.
Local officials noted that search and rescue efforts have intensified to locate those missing.
