the German Chancellor added, “I am not sure if Putin has the courage to participate in a summit with Zelensky.”
He also said, “We welcome Trump’s remarks on security guarantees for Ukraine.”
The Chancellor further commented, “The results of this meeting where beyond our expectations.”
The joint meeting between Trump, European leaders, NATO Secretary General, and Ukraine’s president concluded hours earlier.Trump said during the session that the outlook for the war in Ukraine would become clear within one or two weeks.
Afterward, the U.S. president said: “I had a very good meeting at the White House with esteemed guests Vladimir Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, Alexander Staub, Giorgia Meloni, Keir Starmer-the British Prime Minister-Friedrich Merz-the President of the European Commission-Ursula von der Leyen-and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.”
“During our discussions,” he continued, “we talked about providing security guarantees to Ukraine coordinated by various European countries alongside the United States.”
President Trump added: “At the end of these sessions I contacted President Putin and began arrangements for a meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelensky at a location to be determined later.”
“Following that meeting,” he noted, “we will hold a trilateral session including both presidents plus myself. This is again a very good initial step toward resolving this war that has lasted almost four years.”
The U.S. president also mentioned that his deputy JD Vance along with Secretary of State Marco rubio and special representative Witkoff are coordinating with Moscow and Kyiv.
