According to the English section of webangah News Agency,citing Anatolia,NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that 30 countries are collaborating on a framework of security guarantees for Ukraine. He also emphasized that the United States is prepared to join this initiative.
In an interview with Fox News, Rutte described yesterday’s talks between U.S.President Donald Trump, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, and several European leaders as “very prosperous.” he said the countries are focused on security guarantees that coudl be implemented after a ceasefire, or possibly a comprehensive peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
He added that over recent months, under the leadership of british Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron-and with participation from 30 countries including Japan and Australia-they have been working on the overall framework for these security guarantees.
rutte continued: “The U.S. has now announced its intention to join this group. What exactly U.S. involvement will entail will be discussed in the coming days.”
The NATO chief said Trump held a phone call yesterday with Russian president Vladimir Putin,which resulted in an agreement to arrange a meeting between Putin and Zelensky ahead of an upcoming trilateral summit.
Regarding whether territorial concessions by Ukraine were discussed during yesterday’s meeting, Rutte denied such claims. he also stressed that Ukraine’s NATO membership is not part of current negotiations.
“NATO’s official position since the 2024 summit remains that there is an irreversible path for Ukraine to join NATO,” he said. “However, what we are consulting on now is not membership but security guarantees for Ukraine along the lines of Article 5.”
