According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen, Benjamin Haddad, france’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs, condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempt to link the recognition of Palestine with antisemitism as ”shameful” and fallacious.
On Tuesday, Haddad responded to Netanyahu’s claims that French president Emmanuel Macron was fueling antisemitism by stating that France “does not need lessons on combating antisemitism.”
Following international efforts to recognize the State of Palestine, Netanyahu sent a letter to Macron accusing the French president of “fanning the flames of antisemitism.”
In his letter, Netanyahu warned that Macron’s public criticism of Israel and his support for Palestinian recognition coincided with a troubling rise in antisemitic incidents in France.
The Israeli prime minister argued that Macron’s statements strengthened Hamas’ position and increased hatred toward Jews across Europe.
Late last month, macron announced that France would officially recognize Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September. This announcement prompted swift criticism from Israel.
