According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he believes the initial meeting between Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, and Volodymyr Zelensky, his Ukrainian counterpart, should take place without his presence.
Last Friday in Alaska,Trump met with Putin and then hosted Zelensky along with European leaders in Washington. He emphasized that both sides should aim for a lasting agreement even if an immediate ceasefire is not achieved.
During an interview on Mark levin’s radio show,Trump said: “I had a very accomplished meeting with Putin. the same goes for Zelensky. Now I think it would be better if they meet without me. Just so we can see what happens; I want to find out how this meeting progresses!”
The U.S. president added: “You know, they had a very tense relationship; a really bad one. Now we’ll see how it goes and if necessary-and probably it will be-I’ll step in and likely broker the deal.”
Zelensky told reporters yesterday that he is ready for a possible meeting with Putin. While the Kremlin has not commented on this proposal, Putin stated earlier this year that he was prepared to meet Zelensky in the final phase of negotiations.
Yuri Ushakov, an advisor to Putin, said yesterday that Moscow supports continued “direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.”
