According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Reuters, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korea’s newly elected president Yoon Suk-yeol held talks on Saturday to agree on enhancing their countries’ security and economic ties.
The meeting took place ahead of President Yoon’s scheduled visit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.
In his first official trip to Japan since assuming office in June, President Yoon met with Prime Minister Ishiba at his residence in Tokyo. They discussed bilateral relations between the East Asian neighbors, including closer security coordination with the United States under a trilateral pact established by their predecessors.
Following their meeting, Prime Minister Ishiba said in a joint statement with President Yoon that “given the increasingly serious strategic environment surrounding both countries, our relationship and trilateral cooperation with the United States continue to grow in significance.”
