South Korean and Japanese Officials Stress Strengthening Security Cooperation

Japan’s Prime Minister and South Korea’s new president emphasize strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.

According to ​the English⁤ section of ‌ webangah News Agency, citing Reuters, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru ⁢Ishiba and South Korea’s newly elected president Yoon ⁤Suk-yeol held talks ‍on Saturday to agree on enhancing their countries’⁣ security and ‍economic⁣ ties.

The meeting took place ahead of President Yoon’s scheduled visit with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.

In his first‌ official trip​ to Japan since assuming office in June, President ⁤Yoon met with Prime Minister Ishiba at his residence in Tokyo. They discussed bilateral relations between the East Asian neighbors, including closer security coordination with the United States under a trilateral ‍pact established by their predecessors.

Following their meeting, Prime Minister Ishiba said in a joint statement with President Yoon that “given the increasingly ​serious strategic environment surrounding both countries,​ our relationship and ⁤trilateral cooperation with ‌the United States⁤ continue to grow in significance.”
