Torrential rain in the Querétaro region of central Mexico has caused widespread flooding. Streets and residential areas are submerged, disrupting transportation and damaging infrastructure.
Local authorities confirmed that the floods have claimed two lives.
Simultaneously occurring, Benito Juárez Airport in Mexico City, one of Latin America’s busiest airports, briefly suspended operations due to poor visibility.
In mid-August, flooding around the airport led to flight cancellations for several hours and caused damage. This year has seen severe rainfall across Mexico, especially in the capital. Scientists warn that climate change is intensifying and prolonging extreme weather events worldwide.
