According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra, Tom Barrack, the US envoy to Lebanon, grew frustrated with journalists at the presidential palace in Beirut. The reporters were simultaneously asking questions following his meeting alongside his deputy Morgan Ortagus and a US delegation with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.
Barrack addressed them with offensive language: “We intend to set a different set of rules here. I ask you to be quiet for a moment.” He warned that “as soon as chaos erupts and behaviors become animalistic, we will leave.” He added, “if you want to understand what is happening, act civilized, kindly and with tolerance because that is what regional problems stem from.”
Continuing his disparaging remarks toward journalists he said: ”Do you think this is entertaining for us? Do you think it makes economic sense for Morgan and me to endure this madness here? As long as you speak kindly, attentively and with thoughtful questions, we will respond. If you don’t want things to go this way – we will leave.”
