According to the English section of webangah News Agency citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told Fox News that the agency’s first inspection team has returned to Iran following negotiations with Tehran.
Earlier, Lawrence Norman, a reporter for the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, claimed on social media platform X that during a conference in the United States, Grossi announced ongoing talks with Iran. Contrary to some previous statements, IAEA inspectors are expected to return to Iran.
The journalist added it remains unclear whether these remarks indicate a formal agreement between Iran and the agency for inspectors’ return or if it reflects only Grossi’s prediction about this outcome.
On Friday, Reza Najafi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the IAEA, said that following earlier talks by an IAEA Deputy Director in Tehran, an Iranian delegation met today in Vienna with the agency’s Deputy Director General for Safeguards.
During this meeting, both sides continued discussions held in Tehran regarding how Iran will interact with the International Atomic Energy Agency. These talks took into account new developments caused by unlawful attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities as well as regulations introduced under a recent parliamentary law. The new conditions set by Iran for engagement with the IAEA were explained and discussed.
Najafi emphasized that progress was made during this round of talks and agreed that dialog would continue toward drafting detailed procedures for interaction frameworks based on parliamentary law.
