According to the English section of webangah News Agency, Reuters quoted four diplomats today stating that the UK, France, and Germany plan to begin the snapback process on Thursday. Though, they hope Tehran will present nuclear commitments within 30 days sufficient to persuade them to delay specific actions.
The report noted that these three countries-known as the European trio involved with Iran in the 2015 agreement-met with an Iranian representative yesterday, Tuesday.
Reuters added that three European diplomats and one Western diplomat claimed Tuesday’s talks did not yield enough concrete commitments from Iran. Still, they believed further diplomacy could take place in the coming weeks. The three European states have reportedly decided to move forward with implementing the snapback mechanism as soon as Thursday.
A Western diplomat who declined to be named said negotiations would truly begin only after submitting a letter to the UN Security Council.
Separately, Reuters reported that a German Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed activating the snapback mechanism remains an option for the three European countries.
