According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestinian Information Centre,Ammar Ammar,UNICEF’s Regional Director for Communications in the Middle East and North Africa, stated that continuous bombings and thousands of child casualties have left around 1.1 million children suffering severe psychological and emotional damage.
He added: “What we see today in Gaza is not just a war against children; it is indeed the destruction of life itself.”
Ammar highlighted widespread damage to hospitals, schools, water networks, and homes. He saeid deprivation of humanitarian aid, hunger, displacement, and endless violence have become an unavoidable part of daily life for Gaza’s children.
UNICEF reports that over half a million people in Gaza-especially children-are facing severe famine and hunger. Many deaths resulting from these conditions could have been prevented.
Referring to images circulating of emaciated sick children and infants who are victims of Israel’s systematic starvation policy, Ammar noted that no serious or effective action has been taken to halt this crisis.
The UN agency also raised alarm over a sharp rise in malnutrition in Gaza. In July alone, more than 12,000 children suffered from acute malnutrition.About one in every four affected children faces severe forms-the deadliest type with devastating short- and long-term consequences for physical and mental health.
UNICEF emphasized ongoing efforts to deliver food, medicine and other essential supplies but said Israeli blockade and restrictions remain major obstacles to aid delivery.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Al-Farrah-Director of Pediatrics and Obstetrics at Nasser Medical Complex-told Al-Aqsa Network that the world should feel ashamed over the widespread famine in Gaza.
He noted the disastrous impact nutritional crisis has had on children’s health: “Chronic illnesses are widely affected by malnutrition while child growth risks falling behind.”
Dr.Al-Farrah reported approximately 5,000 chronic patients currently identified within Gaza Strip whose diseases-including blood sugar disorders-are made more challenging to manage due to malnutrition.
