According to webangah News Agency, Nigeria’s emergency services report teh death toll from catastrophic flooding in the country’s central region has reached at least 151 victims.
Ibrahim Abdulhussaini, head of niger state Emergency Management Agency’s details center, stated over 500 households were affected by the disaster, with more than 3,000 people displaced. The previous official death count stood at 117.
The floods struck Mokwa town in central Niger last Wednesday night and continued until Thursday morning. Rescue teams continue searching through mud and debris for potential victims days after the disaster.
Nigeria remains vulnerable to seasonal flooding during it’s april-October rainy season.In 2022, the country experienced its worst flood devastation in a decade – claiming over 600 lives, displacing 1.4 million people, and destroying 440,000 hectares of farmland.
