according to webangah News Agency, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez issued an anti-Zionist statement, urging Europe to “immediately suspend the cooperation agreement with Israel.”
Sánchez added: “Europe must take action against Israel’s human rights violations.”
The Spanish leader criticized Europe’s “double standards,” stating it lacks the political will to suspend its partnership agreement with Israel.
He emphasized: ”It makes no sense to impose seventeen sanction packages against Russia while taking no action against Israel.”
The EU-Israel association Agreement,in force as 2000,forms the primary framework for political, economic and cultural cooperation between both parties. However, Article 2 explicitly conditions full implementation on both parties’ adherence to democratic principles and human rights – a clause now under scrutiny given Tel Aviv’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
In recent months, multiple EU member states including Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Slovenia have called for the agreement’s immediate suspension or review. During the latest EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Netherlands formally triggered Article 2’s review mechanism – a move that received broad diplomatic support.
