The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed a multitrillion-dollar package including tax cuts and spending increases on Thursday, sending the bill to the White House for Donald Trump’s signature after 24 hours of intense negotiations and pressure, according to webangah News Agency.
The largely party-line vote passed 218-214, occurring one day before Trump’s July 4 deadline. It marked the end of a grueling four-month process filled with ideological clashes and bitter tensions between the House and Senate. Republicans had little margin for error due to their razor-thin majority.
Ultimately, Republicans united almost completely behind incorporating most of Trump’s domestic agenda into a single bill-with only two dissenters: Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania. A group of hardline Republicans initially blocked Wednesday’s procedural vote, creating an overnight standoff before Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) secured all but one holdout.
Trump is expected to sign the bill on Independence Day (July 4),marking the GOP’s biggest legislative achievement as gaining full congressional control in January.
