According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr news Agency and RT, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, condemned Washington’s attempts to use political pressure to impose tariffs on Brazil, alleging that the U.S. intended to instigate a “coup” in his country.
Da Silva warned that Brazil will not accept unfair treatment and is ready to defend its interests on the global stage.
Referring to recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump about imposing 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian exports, he said: “The attempt to use political tools to enforce economic sanctions against us is unacceptable.”
The Brazilian president also stressed that his country is no longer economically dependent on the United States and reaffirmed his commitment to replacing the U.S. dollar in international trade.
Da Silva stated: “They want to end multilateralism. They want a return to bilateral agreements, a system where large countries dominate smaller ones. In other words, negotiating between a small country and America is like one factory worker among 800,000 negotiating alone with management-the resulting agreement will be unequal, and you won’t gain anything.”
He emphasized: “We have vast territory, status, and strategic economic interests. We seek negotiation but from an equal position.”
