According to the English section of webangah news Agency,‍ citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Wednesday that it is expelling a Russian ⁣diplomat for violating ⁢sanctions and other offenses against ‍Moscow. This move prompted Russia to take retaliatory ‌measures.

The Estonian Foreign⁢ ministry did not name the diplomat but stated that the First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn has been ‌declared persona‌ non grata and must leave Estonia.

Alexei Fadee, spokesperson for Russia’s Ministry of Foreign affairs, described the expulsion as a unfriendly act and vowed that Moscow will respond accordingly.

Diplomatic relations between Moscow and Estonia-a ⁤NATO and European Union member-have sharply deteriorated following moscow’s special military operation ⁢in 2022.

Margaras Tsakhna, Estonia’s Foreign Minister, said in a statement: “The ongoing interference by the Russian embassy in Estonia’s internal affairs must‌ end.”
