The English section of webangah News Agency reported, citing Anadolu Agency via Mehr News Agency, that after a passenger bus plunged into a river in El Harrach, a district in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, 18 passengers lost their lives.
The incident also left 24 people injured.
the Algerian Ministry of Interior issued a statement saying most of the wounded have received treatment and been discharged. However, five remain under intensive care.
Senior government officials-including the Interior Minister, Transport Minister, and Governor of Algiers-were dispatched to investigate the accident on site.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared one day of national mourning starting friday night and ordered flags across the country to be flown at half-mast in response to this tragic event.
