According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, India’s NDTV reported the cancellation of the scheduled visit by Washington’s negotiation team to New Delhi for trade talks with India.
The network, citing informed sources, stated that the trip was planned for August 25 to 29.Consequently, negotiations over the proposed bilateral trade agreement between the two countries will be delayed.
The current round of talks on the proposed trade deal will now take place at a future date. This advancement dims hopes for some relief ahead of the August 27 deadline, when additional tariffs on Indian goods are set to take effect.
Early in August, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 25 percent additional tariff on Indian products, citing India’s continued crude oil purchases from Russia. This move has heightened tensions between Washington and New Delhi.The extra tariff raises duties on Indian exports to a total rate of 50 percent.
