The Lebanese presidency announced the start of a meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Tom Barrack,President Donald Trump’s envoy, along with his delegation at Baabda Palace, according to the English section of webangah News agency citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
Following the meeting, Barrack stated that he seeks increased cooperation in implementing agreements made with Lebanon.
Without mentioning repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire signed with Lebanon-whose mediation and enforcement are overseen by the United States-he claimed that his only concern is Lebanon’s interests and stopping Israeli misinterpretations.
The U.S. envoy further argued that disarming Hezbollah would benefit lebanon’s Shia community. In remarks described as shameful, he insisted there is no threat against any political faction within Lebanon and emphasized that disarmament is strictly an internal issue.
Barrack added that he does not intend to sign a new agreement concerning Lebanon but aims to enforce the existing ceasefire accord.
He promised progress across all sectors for Lebanon in the future, describing this as leading to better living conditions for both the Lebanese people and neighboring countries.
The U.S.claims were made amid ongoing Israeli incursions into Lebanese territory today, which-as usual-elicited no response from either Washington or Beirut regarding these violations.
