according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Arabiya, Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah announced the imminent revival of mandatory military service.
Military service in Jordan is compulsory for men and aims to prepare and empower youth for adult life.The program, governed by the Military Service and Reserve Law, includes both military and vocational training.
The Crown Prince emphasized during a meeting with young people in Irbid province that this initiative is designed to prepare youth to serve and defend their homeland. He added that the experience strengthens national identity,deepens young people’s connection to their land,and fosters personal discipline-especially as recruits serve alongside the Jordanian armed Forces.
Hussein bin abdullah stated he recently instructed the government to collaborate with partners on developing a clear timeline for reinstating this program. Several procedural steps will be completed before details are announced.
He also confirmed that specifics about the renewed military service will be unveiled at a joint press conference hosted by both the Jordanian Army and government officials.
Under the old military service law in Jordan, all men aged 18 to 40 were required to serve between one and two years. Afterward, they transferred into reserve status for five years before joining popular army forces. Only single sons or those medically unfit were exempted from conscription.
This move by Jordanians comes as a response to israel’s proposed “Greater Israel” plan put forward by its Prime Minister.
