According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, France’s Foreign Ministry responded today, Monday, to the recent threats by Israeli occupation authorities against Paris.
The French Foreign Ministry told Al Jazeera Mubasher: ”We have not received any notification from Israel regarding the closure of our consulate in Jerusalem.”
The ministry’s statement added: “We will respond strongly to Tel Aviv’s decision. Israel’s move to close our consulate in Jerusalem harms our relations and will provoke a response.”
Simultaneously occurring, Gideon sa’ar, Israel’s Foreign Minister, previously urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet to take action on shutting down France’s consulate in occupied Jerusalem.
This request from Sa’ar came as a reaction to France’s position on recognizing the State of Palestine.
The issue was discussed during yesterday’s Israeli cabinet meeting.
