According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the call between Putin and Donald Trump lasted 40 minutes and was very frank and effective.
He added that Trump updated Putin on the progress of talks with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Both sides emphasized their support for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
Ushakov noted that Putin and Trump discussed the idea of increasing the level of representatives from Russia and Ukraine involved in direct talks.
The German newspaper Bild,citing informed sources,reported that Donald Trump left a meeting with European leaders briefly to take the call with Vladimir putin before resuming the session.
Following meetings with European leaders and Zelensky, US President Donald Trump said: “I had a very good session at the White House with respected guests Vladimir Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, Alexander Stubb, Giorgia Meloni, Keir Starmer-the British Prime Minister-Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.”
He stated: “During our meeting we discussed security guarantees for Ukraine provided by various European countries in coordination with the United States.”
The US president added: “At the end of these sessions I contacted President Putin to initiate arrangements for a meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky at a location to be decided later.”
“After that meeting,” he continued, “we will hold a trilateral summit including both presidents plus myself. Again, this is a very good initial step for a war that has been ongoing for nearly four years.”
Trump also mentioned his team coordinating closely: “JD Vance my deputy, Marco Rubio-the Secretary of State-and Witekoff my special representative are all coordinating efforts with Moscow and Kyiv.”
