Dmitry Medvedev,Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, responded to yesterday’s meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders with US President Donald Trump at the white House by saying that anti-Russian war hawks in the so-called “coalition of enthusiasts” failed to outplay Trump.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev wrote: “The anti-Russians and warmongers in this ‘coalition of enthusiasts’ could not play better than the US president on his own turf. The Europeans thanked him and flattered him. The question is: when Kyiv’s clown returns home and puts his green military uniform back on, whose tune will he dance to regarding guarantees and territorial concessions?”
Yesterday at the White House, Trump held a multilateral meeting aimed at resolving the ukraine war. The talks included Zelensky; French President Emmanuel Macron; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer; German Chancellor Friedrich Merz; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; Finnish President Sauli Niinistö; NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg; and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The White House hosted this number of European leaders concurrently for the first time in history. Prior to these multilateral talks, Trump held a one-on-one meeting with Zelensky lasting about an hour.
Earlier reports by the Telegraph cited Trump’s proposal to Zelensky for ending the Ukraine conflict through a “land exchange in return for security guarantees,” describing it as a bitter pill-though othre options would be even more severe.
Though, NATO’s Secretary-General asserted that territorial concessions by Ukraine were not discussed during yesterday’s meeting(!) He also stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO remains outside current negotiations.
