According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Manar, Australia strongly rejected remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu accused australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of being a “weak politician who betrayed Israel” after Canberra recognized Palestine.
Australia’s Home Minister Tony Burke, responding to Netanyahu’s comments on the public broadcaster ABC, said: “Power is not measured by how many people you can blow up or how many children you can let starve.”
Burke added that true power was demonstrated by Albanese when he made a decision he knew israel would oppose but directly confronted Netanyahu and clearly stated Australia’s position.
Benjamin Netanyahu sharply criticized Anthony Albanese following Australia’s announcement to recognize Palestine. He called the Australian leader a traitor and said history would remember him as a weak politician who abandoned Israel and betrayed Australian Jews.
in response to Australia’s recognition of Palestine, Israel’s Foreign Ministry revoked visas for Australian diplomats working with the Palestinian authority on Monday.
The longstanding close relationship between Australia and Israel has become strained as last week after Canberra announced its recognition of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
