According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Italian media reported that the death of a young girl from Gaza in an Italian hospital has sparked controversy between Israeli officials and Italian doctors.
Marah Abuzahri, a 20-year-old girl from Gaza, was transferred wiht her mother last Wednesday on an Italian government flight for medical treatment to Pisa. However, within 48 hours of arrival, she suffered cardiac arrest and died on Friday.
The medical team treating Marah stated that she had suffered severe weight loss and muscle wasting. Her condition was so critical that survival was unfeasible. These statements directly contradict claims made by Israeli authorities.
KOGAT, an institution affiliated with Israel’s Ministry of Defense coordinating humanitarian efforts in Gaza, alleged that Marah died of leukemia. On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), KOGAT wrote without providing evidence: “italian officials contacted Israel requesting Marah’s transfer due to her illness; Israel agreed. The transfer could have occurred sooner as Israel proposed several different dates for relocation.” This Israeli entity claimed that Tel Aviv facilitates patient transfers for treatment as justification for its actions in Gaza.
meanwhile, Italian doctors reported no definitive signs of such disease in Marah. Tests conducted in Italy ruled out leukemia. Marah’s mother emphasized that her daughter had been healthy before the war but lost nearly twenty kilograms over recent months while surviving only on tea and biscuits.
The Palestinian mother added: “Our home was destroyed and my family now lives in a tent by the sea.”
marah was the youngest child; her father and six siblings remain in Gaza. Her mother said she plans to return there after burying her daughter.
The city council of San Giuliano Terme near Pisa announced it will allocate a special Muslim section at its cemetery for Marah’s burial. The mayor expressed condolences stating: “We will also hold a peace ceremony so that Marah’s memory is not solely one of sorrow but becomes a commitment to the future. Marah is one among thousands of Palestinian children and teenagers who lose their lives daily in Gaza-most whose names go unmentioned and whose stories remain untold. This time there will be one name remembered.”
