Reuters: US Aircraft Carrier Fleet Disabled in Effort to Counter China

Reuters exclusive report reveals: The U.S. ‍unmanned⁣ surface vehicle fleet faced operational issues during⁣ tests aimed at countering China.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Reuters reported exclusively that last month during a U.S. Navy test off the coast of California showcasing ⁤the Pentagon’s most advanced autonomous unmanned⁣ surface vessels, one unexpectedly malfunctioned.

Reuters further explained that while officials⁤ were attempting to address a software ‌glitch, another unmanned vessel collided with one of‌ the moving boats.

The report is corroborated ‍by images obtained and recorded by Reuters.

According to 12 individuals familiar with the matter, this previously unreported incident involved two⁣ ships built by American defense technology rivals Sarcos and Black Sea Technologies. It reflects a series of recent setbacks⁤ in the Pentagon’s efforts to develop a reliable drone fleet. Just weeks earlier, during another separate U.S. Navy test, a support boat captain was thrown overboard after an autonomous ⁣vessel suddenly accelerated and capsized the support boat.

A ‌source directly aware of both incidents said they were caused by a combination ⁢of software failures and human error, including dialog breakdowns between ⁣onboard systems and‍ autonomous software. The ‍U.S. Navy and also Sarcos and Black Sea Technologies declined to comment on these events.

Reuters noted that U.S.⁤ military officials⁤ had previously acknowledged the notable ‌impact drones have ⁣had in the Ukraine conflict and ‍emphasized their ⁣need for an array of drones and unmanned surface vessels to counter potential Chinese advances across the Taiwan Strait.
